By definition, the immune system refers to the body's own defense system to protect the body from disease. It comprises a complex network of different organs, cells, proteins, tissues and chemical substances that have the function of maintaining the body's own structure by defending against foreign substances and pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi.
